On Monday 9 December we welcomed Mary-Anne Boerman to give a talk to Historic Royal Palaces members. Mary-Anne is one of the most successful contestants of the fabulous Great British Bake Off and has written a cookbook Great British Bakes: Forgotten Treasures for Modern Bakers. Mary Berry praises this new insight into historic cooking calling it ‘a brilliantly researched book, from a true foodie’. No higher prised indeed!
The cookbook is full of historic recipes such as Welsh Honey Cakes, Butter Buns and Mince Pies. We learnt about a few of these recipes whilst in the surrounds of the Great Watching Chamber at Hampton Court Palace. After the talk members were able to enjoy drinks and nibbles in the Tudor Kitchens whilst appreciating the warmth of the fire on what was a very chilly December evening.
For those of you who were able to attend the event we hope you had a lovely evening and that you enjoy these photographs taken on the night. If you have any of your own then do tweet them to us (@hrp_palaces) or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
